Kartengrüße

Like last year, an information seminar on international internships for police students was held again at The University of Applied Police Sciences of the Brandenburg State. Students recruited in 2013 pointed out their experiences during their two-week internships abroad. These internships were part of modules to chose like "Police Ethics and The Prevention of Corruption", "International Police Missions" and "Transnational Crime".

The police attaché of the Romanian embassy, Mr Ionus, as well as Mrs Rabe, representative of the city administration of Oranienburg, also paid a visit to the seminar, which was opened by the president of The University of Applied Police Sciences, Rainer Grieger. The president decided to join the event all the time.

Fifteen very different talks on the experiences in Belgium, Bulgaria, Great Britain, Ireland, Croatia, Iceland, Northern Ireland, Austria, Romania, Switzerland, Slovenia, Czech Republic and Hungary were held then by students who had been abroad and many pictures shown. The students reported on the structure and particular character of the police forces in other countries. Great differences to our Brandenburg police forces were found. Some significant differences were also recognised, e.g. in the equipment (for example, the police are usually unarmed with the exception of a few units in some countries) or differences of the organizational structure of the police departments.

All speakers emphasised the great hospitality of the visited forces and the good relationship between the police forces and the local population.

The students expressed their gratitude to The University of Applied Police Sciences and to the president, Rainer Grieger, for making it possible to go abroad during their studies of police sciences. The visits abroad were of the greatest benefit to all of them and an outstanding experience.

Not only internships in foreign countries were provided by The University of Applied Police Sciences. The students of Mrs Müller (voluntary class "Language training Polish") had the chance to put their acquired language skills into practice in Krakow and Dr. Niekisch led "his" students of the elective module "Police History" for teaching purposes to Poznan and Czestochowa.
