Administrative Department for Advisory Service and Support for Acquisition of External Funding

The department was set up at the University of Applied Police Sciences Brandenburg (HPol BB) on 29.07.2013 and provides advice and support on external funding.

It is responsible for the following:

  • analysis and evaluation of financial assistance especially at the EU level available for police in the areas of disaster response and combating crime as well as
  • non-police measures for disaster response subject to the responsibilities of Department 4 of the Ministry of the Interior and Municipalities of the State of Brandenburg (MIK BB)

It provides assistance to the police authorities and facilities (MIK BB/Department 4, the Police Headquarters, the University of Applied Police Sciences Brandenburg, the Police Central Services Office, Joint German and Polish Police and Customs Co-operation Centre) as well as the State School and Technical Institute for Fire and Civil Protection (LSTE) in:

  • selection of appropriate funding;
  • application procedure,
    e.g. completing and submitting the funding application;
  • implementation
  • and completion of relevant funding requirements,
    e.g. submitting necessary reports to the funding office during and at the end of externally funded projects.

The Administrative Department for Advisory Service and Support for the Acquisition of External Funding deals with financial assistance and funding that can be obtained from the EU-Internal Security Fund (ISF Police), from interregional co-operation programmes (Interreg VA Brandenburg/Poland, Interreg VA Poland/Saxony, Interreg VA Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania/Brandenburg/Poland, Interreg VB Baltic Sea Region, Interreg VB Central Europe, Interreg Europe), the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation HORIZONT 2020 as well as from the national German security research programme “Research for Civil Security”.

The department is also the point of contact for the following funding programmes:

  • EAFRD - European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development
  • ESF - European Social Fund
  • ERDF - European Regional Development Fund
  • MobiproEU - Special Programme of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs
  • Mauerfonds - German fund for eastern German states and Berlin
  • REC - European Rights, Equality and Citizenship Programme
  • EU-Civil Protection Financial Instrument
  • FöRLKatSÜ 2015/2016 – Brandenburg`s Funding Guideline for Civil Protection Exercises
  • Foundations etc.

The department for security research has the following prime tasks and responsibilities:

  • The coordination of the Brandenburg police research activities
  • The external funding office work for research projects and similar purposes, including identification of funding opportunities, providing assistance to grant applications as well as financial and administrative handling of research projects
  • The monitoring of national and international security research results
  • Awarding grants within the framework of the MIK BB`s municipal crime prevention strategy.
